What this site keeps
There are no accounts here, no analytics services and no tracking cookies. This page lists what is kept anyway, and for how long. The public pages also show one banner ad, described under Advertising.
Server logs
Like most websites, this one runs on a web server that logs every request: your network (IP) address, the time, the address of the page asked for, the page you came from and your browser. WeldonPC, which runs the site, uses these logs to keep the server secure and to count visits with the hosting control panel's own statistics tools (AWStats and Webalizer). The logs are processed every 24 hours and then kept in monthly archive files, which are deleted at the end of the following month. The visit statistics are monthly summaries kept with the site's hosting account; they can list the network addresses that made the most requests. The server's security filter also records requests it blocks or flags.
If you send a trip
We keep what you type into the form (boat, title, date, waters, the trip itself, the name to show and, only if you give it, an email address) in a private queue, with the time it arrived. To limit abuse we also keep a keyed one-way hash of your network address with it; that hash is cleared after 2 days. Every submission, read or not, is deleted 180 days after it arrives. The form sets one cookie that protects it against forged submissions.
Only WeldonPC can read the queue. We read it from time to time, with no set schedule, and nothing is published automatically. A trip we publish appears as a log entry, possibly shortened, showing the boat, the waters, the date and the name you chose. Your email is never shown, and is used only to ask you a question about your trip. This site sends no email and no notifications.
Backups of the site's database include the queue: the server keeps a nightly copy for 14 days and a copy from each of the last 10 updates of the site, and WeldonPC keeps backups taken before changes to the site and occasional backups of the whole server, with no fixed end date.
To have a submission removed sooner, ask through WeldonPC.com with the title and date you sent it.
Advertising
Public pages on this site show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. The banner sits after the main content; the trip form, this page and the terms carry none.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
